How to Change All Caps to Proper Case in Excel

The Advantages of this Function

Forget manually retyping each word out with its proper case. This easy Excel function can come in handy when data in a sheet is all caps. The formula used will be able to quickly recognize which letters are supposed to be capitalized and which are lower case.

Steps to Changing All Caps to Proper

  • Insert an empty column to the right of the all caps

  • In the first empty cell, type in the following formula: =PROPER(cell)

  • Within the parenthesis, you are going to select the cell that is all caps and hit enter

  • Drag the bottom right corner down or use the shortcut: Ctrl + D (fills the formula down) or Ctrl + R (fills the formula to the right row)
